Succession is an example of Kandinsky’s late burst of creative energy. At first glance, the painting recalls Kandinsky’s abiding interest in natural history and scientific drawings – embryos, amoebas, and invertebrates. However, closer inspection reveals fantasy creatures, shapes, and signs that dance along four horizontal fields reminiscent of musical notation.

For our project, we drew inspiration from Wassily Kandinsky's abstract painting style to create a dynamic installation designed specifically for the 1111 Lincoln Garage. We constructed a custom railing around the garage that visually echoed key elements of Kandinsky's work, incorporating the bold geometric shapes and vibrant colors that characterize his style. Additionally, we created furniture pieces inspired by the same shapes, transforming the static elements of the space into functional art.
